The sun shines once more as Philadelphia band The Lawsuits deliver a four songs EP of sugar coated country rock meets seventies pop rock as a follow up to their album “Darleen”. The EP is called “Hot Love” and The Lawsuits made me want to sing along with each and every one of those songs.
All those good things often thought lost like hooks and harmonies are here in abundance and there is something quite endearing about the way the voices of Vanessa Winters and Brian Dale Allen Strouse intertwine in the chorus of “Long To Mend” that makes me think of some seventies sitcom theme tune whilst simultaneously making me cry out for more cowbells. You can never have too many cowbells.
“Mississippi River” is likewise full of old time charm and Ms Winters once again manages to be simply adorable. “Baby Don’t Go” picks up the pace in the manner of a revival by some country rock band of a stray Suzy Quatro song. As this EP rolls to a close – way too soon – with the delightfully named “Hot Girl Makes Porno”, you can feel a decade close in less than five minutes. No argument about the song writing ability displayed there and that’s a fact.
Good songs and a thoroughly good natured performance make this EP something of a treat for the ears and, as a bonus, it is available as a free download from Bandcamp.
