Kovlo should win some sort of award for the title of their album. “Hey Mom, Where’s Timbuktu?” has got to be original but, unfortunately, that is more than can be said of the music found therein. Kovlo are another Italian post rock band with no particular direction to follow and in a rather less successful way than, say, Coldplay, they pile on the pretentiousness even excising Dennis Hopper’s rant from the Apocalypse Now soundtrack rather than attempting to do something memorable or, God forbid, original.
That’s not so say that the playing is substandard – for it isn’t – but those is us whose ears are familiar with the ways of European post rockers will have heard this all before. Let’s call it dull for that is what it is
