There’s always room for another power rock trio and Pulse – who hail from Glasgow – are, indeed, another power rock trio. For their influences they draw from the best if places with elements of Radiohead, Cream and Gomez to be found amongst the ten songs that make up their album “Liquid Safari”.

A solid effort it is too with some particularly reverential guitar work from J J McGowan keeping the rock goliath groove going and, even in delicate moments such as those found in “Hypnotised”, the band still sound muscular. There are some nice sonic touches too like the Middle Eastern seasoning that lifts “Black On White” out of the ordinary but, ultimately, conventionality is the name of the game here and “Liquid Safari” ends up seeming more earnest than inspired.

The album is available from Bandcamp.
