It’s easy to be dismissive of indie rock bands. No matter what part of the country they are from, and British Racing Green are from Leeds, they seem driven to slavishly conform to the limitations expected of their chosen musical genre. Their “In Disgrace With Fortune” EP, rather disappointingly, slavishly conforms to those expectations.
The four songs on this EP are, in truth, nice enough examples of indie rock songs and the singer – called Wilko apparently – does his best to give them life and just about gets away with it on “Coast to Coast” and “Muscle Memory”. However, the rest of the band sound like they are made of plastic and the generic cut and paste production makes it nearly impossible to distinguish this band from the many others that worship mediocrity.
Maybe their confidence will grow enough to make their next release rather more individual? I hope so.
