The process of distillation is key to production of many an alcoholic beverage. Distillation seems also to be part of the modus operandi of Glasgow band Father Sculptor for they draw heavily, and wisely, from the educated musical choices of the bedsit cardigan wearers.
“Ember” spins up Scottish guitar powered indie pop to something akin to a holy transformation as said indieness is returned for a glass out respray in shades of The Smiths and the Inspiral Carpets. This new coat of many colours enables Father Sculptor to stand tall and proud instead of slip sliding away into the mire of mediocrity. No new ground may have been walked upon here but it is hard to deny the presence of both style and substance in this song.
“Blue” sounds more reverential than inspirational in comparison but, at the very least, proves that Father Sculptor have more than one decent song.
