Oh no, what has happened here? Band seeks musical direction and gets horribly lost? Well at least it isn’t shoegaze and that is just about all you can say about The Leg’s album “An Eagle To Saturn” as it staggers, hopefully mercilessly drunk, between the arthouse and the absurd.
There are times, though, when the frenetic derangement just about works – such as “Twitching Stick” – but too often the opposite is true with, as an example, “Witch on the Speaker” going nowhere very, very quickly indeed. “Sad As A Dead Monkey” also showed some promise with the elegant strings evoking atmosphere and counterpointing the tragically bad vocals admirably. I assume that was the plan anyway.
Daring to be different and daring to be dull? The Leg have succeeded on both counts.
