It doesn’t take long to take a shine to Sarah Coloso as this Scottish singer has the mark of the chanteuse stamped upon her and her songs. She has the control of a trained voice but has no problem pushing the emotional boat out when she feels the need.
As an example of that, “Dead Air” is polished and polite to the point of being middle of the road with Ms Coloso going large on the emotion. That song, however, does not necessarily indicate her musical direction as “How To Hold A Gun” takes her off into political commentary on the bleak state of the human condition in the modern world. She gets her point across with no small amount of drama.
So far so good. How about getting better all the time? “Notre Dame”, whilst more Arielle Dombasle than Edith Piaf, is sly cabaret personified and is handled with just the right amount of decadence. The stage, methinks, beckons for our Ms Coloso.
A promising release indeed for Sarah Coloso.
