I feel the need to clap and hands and stamp my feet. That means that I must be listening to electro rock and, indeed, it is Don Turbulento – named after a song by Yello no less – who are kicking up a robotic groove this time around.
Proudly presenting themselves as guitar free, this Italian band do a respectable job of keeping your ears interested with their relentless and often frenetic synth driven songs like “Evil Heaven” sounding like it had simultaneously escaped from both the asylum and the dancefloor. If you’ve ever liked that eighties analog synth pop sound then you will find much to enjoy here too. Retro seems to be unavoidable these days but, nonetheless, Don Turbulento mange to escape any accusations of being mere copycats by the transformational energy that their music possesses.
Barring an ill-advised diversion into rap (“Don T”) that I hope was intended as a pastiche, the consistency of the songs is commendable too. The quirky “Mean It” was my personal favourite. That’s all for now, folks!
