Sunday afternoon. BluesBunny rises from his slumbers. His spirits are low. No doubt because of the spirits consumed the previous night. Something is needed to bring BluesBunny back to life. Some gospel music is needed. This 2001 release from Sista Monica should do the trick.
The album is 13 tracks of pure old fashioned gospel and none the worse for that. Led by the powerhouse, heartfelt vocals of Sista Monica, this traditional fayre is reheated up to boiling point. There are storming versions of "Down by the Riverside", "When the Saints go Marching In" and "Walk All over God's Heaven". Particularly impressive were the acapella "Amazing Grace/Motherless Child" and the bluesy "The Stranger". With a choir accompaniment on some tracks and quality guitar work from Tim Landis, this collection adds up to a heady brew of gospel intoxication.
If only all churches featured this kind of singing on a Sunday, then attendances would be so much higher. It is an emotionally uplifting album guaranteed to raise your spirits. Recommended. Available from CD Baby.
