This is an album of good solid blues, backed with a driving beat and gratifyingly unpretentious vocals, which features predominantly mid to up tempo numbers. Among the highlights are "Rockin' in Memphis", "Livin' Day to Day" and "Two Time Dirty Dog", all fine examples of the up tempo blues that seem to be Skyla's forte. Although with "I'm Going Down" and "Come In" she shows that she can handle the slower paced side equally as well.
Skyla and Mark Tomlinson ably share the lead guitar duties between them, (and do likewise with the song writing), and although a very listenable album, you have the impression that the band would much rather be on the stage than in the studio. There just seems to be a certain restrained energy lurking under the surface waiting to burst forth, almost as if a bit of the intensity has been taken of their performance. That aside this is still a worthwhile purchase that will keep you satisfied.
