I have to admit that I have some fondness for Italian bands. Maybe it is because of the perceived style advantage that most bands from that part of the world seem to have or some deep seated desire that I have for la dolce vita but In the end my ears just love all things Italian. Apart from the style free roots rock band Lowlands, that is.
For one thing, they sound like a charmless American band and that is about as good as it gets. From the squashed production (by Joey Huffman) to the calculated blue collar Springsteen meets middle of the road Americana songs, “Beyond” has the mark of a uninspired festival band stamped all over it. It’s not that it is a bad album, you understand, but it is undeniably a dull album.
