The Blind Boys of Alabama have been around in one form or another for over 60 years. Their power to impress has not diminished with the passing years. This 12 track release from 2002 includes both secular and traditional gospel material.
We get spirited covers of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" and Curtis Mayfield's "Get Ready" along with a moving version of Prince's "The Cross". The backing courtesy of Robert Randolph and the Family Band is excellent. The best tracks are the sensitive, emotional take on "Many Rivers to Cross" and the almost accapella "My Precious Lord". If these two tracks don't get to you then it would be advisable to check if you are in fact unconscious.
The Blind Boys of Alabama produce music that is good for the soul. They move with the times but they remain what they always were. Pure class.
