Way back in 1602, the immortal William Shakespeare wrote the words “If music be the food of love, play on”. Never were truer words written, or indeed spoken, and, as if driven to provide evidence of that, Musique Le Pop gift us five songs on their “L’Eté” EP that evoke all those soon to be fond memories of sandy beaches and summer nights.
This is europop of the old school of course and Musique Le Pop demonstrate a love for the sequenced musical backdrop and wistful female vocals that made the 80s on the beach such a special time. “Mateo”, for example, is so warm and cute that it is bound to become the logical soundtrack to your forthcoming summer holiday with “Falling in Love” moving quickly into second place in the adorability ratings.
It’s not all ice cream and overpriced cocktails though and Musique Le Pop bring a more reflective and mature approach to the delicate folk flavoured “Dream Out Loud” to make it the song that is most likely to satisfy your appetite and make you stay with this band all the way through winter.
