Even in Britain you can get the blues and I suppose that’s hardly a surprise given the sad state of democracy in our once sceptered isle. Once you get those British blues, however, you are going to need a blues band to keep you company on your visits to those 12 bars. A band like the Mudcat Blues Trio.

The Mudcat Blues Trio hail from Sheffield but that sweet home Chicago feel exists in all of the songs on their self-titled album and their musical motivations seem reverential with songs like “Cruel Hard World” and “Gates of Hell” being as much of now as the days of the move from South to North. All the best influences are in there too with “Drowning in the Flood” evoking BB King within the four walls of its easy going style.

It would be a hard thing not to like this album especially if you have the blues and beer on your mind. The Mudcat Blues Trio have their heart in the right place and it is a fair bet that you will consequently find a place in your heart for them.
