There’s a lot to be said for honesty in music, if only because there is so little of it about in these digitally remastered days. It is therefore something of a pleasure to listen to the Electric Vulture’s self-titled EP and hear the ways of time past treated with the respect that they deserve.

It would have been easy to write off Electric Vultures as just another young blues rock band created to give the festival audience – about the only decent sized audience an unknown band might play to these days – what they already know. Only, when you think about it, it’s not that easy to convince those who have heard it all before so, to do that, Electric Vultures have resorted to good old fashioned musicianship. Despite their youth, they roll on down the highway with a maturity and sense of purpose that does them credit with “Where I Belong”, in particular, telling it like it was and always will be. They also show a willingness, perhaps as a result of having actual ability, to spread their musical wings and let the music take them off into the sunset as “Lies” demonstrates.

The sound may be rough and ready but the performance is far from that and Electric Vultures keep it real throughout.

The Electric Vultures EP is available from Bandcamp.
