In all things there is peace and harmony, or so they say, and it is indeed true of “Across The Bridge” by British ambient folksters Red Sonnet for they are both mellow and fruitful throughout these nine laidback songs that are clearly designed to soothe.

With an evenness of intention evident, Red Sonnet – Sharron and Jan Harris – never need to resort to counterpoint or conflict to get their point across and whether stripped down to the acoustic, as in “Eliah’s Sonnet”, or floating in the river of ambient influences, as in “Sacred King”, their music is never less than organic in intention and execution. Some may find themselves ambivalent to this unassuming approach but there will also be some to whom this is the sonic equivalent of a soak in a warm bath. As a mind much greater than mine might say, each to his own needs.

Red Sonnet aren’t in the three minute single business and “Across The Bridge” validates their alternative approach to getting your attention. Breathe deeply and all will become clear.

Available from Bandcamp.
