If you are as overdosed on cynicism as I am, you might start wondering where all the fun in music went with rock music, in particular, often seeming lost in a maze of its own pretensions. Sometimes, however, you come across a set of songs, a mere four at that, that just sound like fun.
The four songs are from Italian singer Teresa Mascianà and, as the genre so often demands, they are sung in English. Despite that, the second language syndrome proves not so much a barrier as an opportunity to play with the format. As examples, there are moments of lyrical wisdom that go deeper than the surface in “I Need You Now” and “Half A Bubble” drifts far closer to indie pop than a song without a guitar solo should. As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life.
All in all, “I Need You Know” is a satisfying sampler and it makes you want more from Ms. Mascianà. This, as always, is a good thing.
