It is refreshing to encounter a singer with old-fashioned values. A singer unafraid to sing rather than posture. A singer who even has a cool name. A singer called Verushka.
“Itch In My Brain” is her debut album and, whilst firmly in the modern smooth jazz style, she nudges herself endearingly in the direction of an accomplished song interpreter with her casual demeanour making it all seem so easy. “Here’s Hoping” provides a fine example of her ability to play with a song while keeping said song firmly under her thumb. Her lightness of touch is further confirmed by both “Fake It” and “Celos” even if she always seems to be in a higher gear than her rather stolid backing musicians.
A voice to listen out for? Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.
The album is available for download from Bandcamp.
