Rock music is forever and that is especially true of Glasgow rock bands like Gordon’s Alive - Jonny Penman, Paul Murray and Tony McCauley - as they worship at the altar of power chords and the always and forever great smell of Brut (even if the only place you can get it these days is Poundland). Their EP, “All These Days”, is as much of the past as it is of today but none the worse for that as this band’s beer drinking honesty always shines through.

Come to think of it, I can’t really imagine listening to this EP without the benefit of beer but that is really the point. Gordon’s Alive aren’t out to make political points or open your mind to the woes of the world. They are a Friday night band. The kind of band that makes the weekly work until you get paid drag something bearable because you know that your soundtrack for a weekend of professional drinking will be ready and waiting for you. I would even go so far as to say that the songs on the EP don’t even matter as all four of them will sound just as fine in a backstreet bar as they will on the radio on the way to work with a hangover on Monday. You want me to pick a favourite anyway? In that case, I’ll go for “Love or Pride”.

It has just occurred to me that I once saw Gordon’s Alive perform in a bar and I promptly fell madly in love with the bar goddess. No disrespect to the band though as, let’s face it, you can’t win when she has both the sin and the beer.
