Sick Teeth. Just another German band obsessed with the primitive glories of early rock ‘n’ roll or are they perhaps a reminder that better days are firmly behind us? OK, I doubt that there is actually any deep philosophical meaning hidden in any of the seven songs on their mini album “Ghost” but, in its place, is an enjoyable, near theatrical attempt, at recreating all the best parts of a rather noisy past.
It is also fair to say that Sick Teeth are more than the sum of their antique influences as they manage to coat everything with a layer that is rather more grunge than garage but, when it comes down to it, this is still the kind of music that goes best with basements, beer drinking and flame haired women with “Spanish Girls” standing out as Ritchie Valens gets transported in time for a few short minutes to the present via the nineties. It is well worth turning the volume up all the way for that one.
Nudging into second place is the (mostly) instrumental “Pizza Party” as this is the kind of song destined to be put on party repeat if only to extend its sub two minute run time.
So, while Sick Teeth may draw on the past, they throw in enough that is modern to give them their chance to stand out from the crowd. “Ghost”, as you might imagine, is another album to play loud after dark.
