It’s always better on vinyl, or so they say, and even the cynical might be drawn to the same conclusion by these two songs by German rocking revivalists The Howlin’ Max Messer Show. Onwards, without further ado, to the songs themselves.
Taking the A side is “Wild Man”. An authoritative guitar provides the impetus necessary to move the song into second gear and guide you out of the shadows and into the sunset with Max Messer keeping things on course. Lo-fi, as always, and yet it all feels so right.
“Why I Cry”, on the other hand, is an altogether more theatrical mid-paced lament for love lost that would make even the most cold hearted man cry into his tenth beer at the end of an evening. There is, after all, a believer in tomorrow inside us all.
Available on vinyl from Off Label Records.
