In an ever changing world where cardigans are the only fashion constant, there will always be a place for the manic tweeness of indie pop with Seattle cuddle bunnies Tullycraft showing just how it should be done with their album “The Railway Prince Hotel”.
All the boxes get ticked with clever lyrics, hipster irony and a boxload of pop culture references populating these twelve songs. To put it simply, this album is just too good for the coffee shop crowd even if they did actually know who Billy Joel or Goldie and the Gingerbreads were but – hey, Grandad! – we don’t need to know that anyway because, when it comes down to it, if Jesus walked this earth again, he would be a vegetarian and enjoying the rewards of a sponsorship by Gap. He would even drink a cappuccino but, in order to truly complement his khaki chinos, would be doing so ironically.
When it comes down to it, this album has a high annoyance factor but, even worse than that, I would also have to admit that I actually liked it. Let’s face it, “The Railway Prince Hotel” is just too well put together to be disliked even if its very tweeness made me want to take part in blood sports. Then again, Gap do sell very nice cardigans and I do have some vouchers to spend. Oh, the essential dichotomy of life strikes again…
