As it turns out, releasing music on cassette is quite common these days and even Scottish bands do it. Not just lo-fi limited appeal bands either but also bands with enough in the way of poise and intellectual intent to pull people away from the land of the download. The next, self-released this time, cassette on the list is therefore “Sun Dance” by Falkirk band Vulture Party and, this time, the cassette is blue and the case is yellow. I like colours.
Don’t forget the music. There are just two songs on this cassette – “Sun Dance” and “A Sunny Disposition”- and, if you like your music bright and bouncy then you might want to look elsewhere for your soundtrack. However, if you are forever joined to the real world then these two, rather downbeat, songs will have an appeal for you. Naturally, the cassette has little in the way of information about the band but, as the elegant melancholy of “Sun Dance” overcame my resistance, I thought to myself that I know her voice. And I did. Ha! Small world.
The limited edition cassette is available from Bandcamp.
