There are times when you pray for a press release. Something to give you a bit of background on what you are listening to you. Something to (perhaps) persuade the ink in your pen to flow. Well, it would seem that the cat got to the press release for “Nice Place” by Kristof Robert so it looks like I shall have to rely on then music to inspire me.
Ten songs is what you get here. Ten songs in the general key of Americana which is a bit odd as the lyrics are a bit loopy and Kristof Robert’s accent is distinctly French. If you want style then a smart man, or woman, would go to France to find it so, given what is to be heard here, our Mr Robert must have moved to another country. Certainly, “L’oiseau Lecteur” has an endearing quirkiness going in its favour but the rest of the songs on this album seem rather awkward with the pseudo rock ‘n’ roll “Leo’s Guitar”, in particular, nearly sinking back into its own influences.
Anyway, you know how it goes with the Americana genre. He’s a little bit country. She left him for a man with decent taste in music. She made the right decision.
The album is available from Bandcamp.
