We don’t have enough singer songwriters in the world today. Of course, I would say that because, otherwise, I wouldn’t have much to write about. Monica Whitlock is a singer songwriter and her EP “Promise Me You'll Stay Long Enough to Hear This” contains more than enough angst to prove her credentials.

She keeps it personal on all the five songs on this EP eschewing the sugar coating so often required for success in favour of a more cathartic approach to the making of music. That honesty brings much in the way of credit to her even if her literate emotional expositions sometimes verge on the uncomfortable. Not that I’m complaining about that for her style is preferable to processed plasticity any day.

I don’t suppose many will listen to these songs as a source of comfort or even distraction yet there will also be many who can relate to the inspiration behinds the lyrics and music and I can guarantee that no one will ever think that these songs were the product of a bored computer. “Promise Me You'll Stay Long Enough to Hear This” is a human thing all the way.

Best song: The neo conventional “Parchment Paper.”

Verdict : Cathartic
