It is an entirely reasonable assumption that there will always be a market for a blues album and it is also entirely reasonable to assume that such an album would be like “Paint It Blue” by The Gus Glynn Band.
Surprises are not expected in a blues album and “Paint It Blue” duly contains none yet there is something comforting about that as these three gentlemen of Cheshire – that’s Cheshire in England, by the way – roll their train out of the station on their way to their earnest destination. Their playing is fluid and easy on the ear, which is no bad thing, with due deference given to their British blues rock influences and, yes, this is indeed the kind of music that you would want to hear with your Friday night beer.
“Paint It Blue” is an honest album. Of that there is no doubt and it contains more than enough evidence to make you want to catch The Gus Glynn Band playing live. That’ll do nicely.
