Now we are getting somewhere. I have somewhat vague memories of hearing a Kandle album some years ago but my recollection was of an artist capable of producing ear candy not one who could inject near theatrical levels of drama into her music which she has duly done with her new album “Danger To Dream”.

I even got to thinking of “Danger To Dream” as a concept album for these diffident days and it would just be a matter of time before the twelve songs that make up this album made the jump to the stage and started the long walk to Broadway. Don’t get me wrong, this is undoubtedly an album borne of technology and everything you hear is processed as if computer technology was paying the rent yet there is also a story threaded into all that is here that, when aligned with Kandle’s distinctly stylised vocals, draws you into the drama unfolding in your ears.

Of course, there are songs that speak of the heart – there would have to be for this is a soundtrack to a story - but it is the fact that this album sounds complete, as if the twelve parts of the whole are better together than apart, that makes “Danger To Dream” interesting and Kandle swoops through each song as if her words were destined to decorate the walls of forever. That is the mark of musical maturity. She could make anything real.

Best song: “St Pauls”

Verdict: The story unfolds.

Available on vinyl as well from Bandcamp
