I am a big David Lynch fan myself. Most of the time I don’t know what his films are actually about but, as they say, a lot of the joy in getting somewhere is in the journey. So, when a band proclaims their love for the music of the movies of David Lynch, then I had to investigate Fuck You, Tammy! and their EP “Sycamore Trees” further.

And so it was. The delightfully named Fuck You, Tammy! – possibly not the best band name for radio airplay purposes despite the purity of the Twin Peaks reference – are delightfully theatrical and, in all that they do, they behave as if cabaret had never fallen from fashion with Devery Doleman’s voice easily enticing your ears away from the mundanities of life. The songs on the “Sycamore Trees” EP will, of course, be familiar to worshippers of Lynchian soundtracks and are duly performed with the kind of style that might make a man wonder if reality is really where he wants to spend his time.

So, after the credits roll, the EP is an exercise in style that will make you want to go the coolest nightclub in the darkest part of town and bathe yourself in fantasy champagne. No doubt about it, “Sycamore Trees” does what it was intended to do.

Also available on vinyl from Bandcamp.
