Sometimes, out of scientific curiosity, I wonder what kind of sonic assault it would take to make a man’s ears bleed. Not just metaphorically but actual physical damage. The answer might just be the “Thanks For Nothing” EP by The Last Siren.
I can’t say that I am familiar with this band and I certainly am not going to spoil any illusion by reading something as mundane as a press release. However, on the basis of the four muscular songs on this EP, The Last Siren will likely be a band that wears black, probably black leather at that, and who never, on point of principle, come out in the daylight. Everything on this EP sounds fuelled by steroids with insistent drumming, impassioned vocals and enough in the way of powerhouse riffs to make even a heavyweight metal band jealous yet, underneath the full on posturing, melody has not been forgotten with the title track managing to cause an unexpected bout of singing along.
I am sure that, of a Friday night, The Last Siren would be the kind of band you would want to seek out when your posh friends are not looking. They are basic, brutal and go down very well with beer and, whilst the Last Siren won’t actually make your ears bleed, they absolutely are loud. Very LOUD!
