There is always room in my musical collection for some more power pop and power pop is what you would expect to get from “Infodemic” by Glasgow’s very own The Eisenhowers.

Yet this isn’t actually an album full of songs that will induce feelings of joy and duly transport you to the sunny side of the street for The Eisenhowers – or Raymond Weir as he might be better known – are in a serious mood. The lyrics display the expected literacy but there is something deliberately downbeat about all that is here as if these songs represent a deliberate dive into deeper and darker waters.

“Infodemic” is therefore a somewhat unusual album for these times. It is casually paced with nothing obvious to grab your attention yet the low key production and its very consistency mark this album as one by a musician who has been doing this kind of thing since the world was a happier place yet still has something worthwhile to say.

Best song: “Somewhere Long Ago”

Verdict: Intellect underplayed.

Available from Bandcamp.
