I can’t say that I had heard of Martin Flett before. “When The Introverts Come Out” is, however, an interesting title for an album so it seemed only reasonable to, without further ado, press the play button on this album.

I suppose interesting would actually be a good way to describe this album. As Martin Flett is from somewhere in the Outer Hebrides, I was, truth be told, wishing and hoping for something that would draw on the great Gaelic tradition yet that was not what these songs are all about. Scotland, for reasons that scientists have not properly investigated, also has a traditional fondness for the country music style and, with occasional lapses into whimsy such as the title track aside, the songs on this albums would make most excellent vehicles for anyone wanting to take the journey to the glitter filled land of Nashville and, to that end, his stories of damaged people and broken dreams are practically guaranteed to be the ticket to get you there.

Yeah and verily, “When The Introverts Come Out” is therefore an album that will appeal both to the sentimental and to the forlorn who seek emotional equivalence in their choice of music and it is to Martin Flett’s credit that he can carry that weight over the full length of this album.
