There’s really not much to say about “Bad Whisky Blues by Mick Clarke. Really, there isn’t for, when you have been doing the 12 bar thing for as long as Mick Clarke has, the chances of making an artistic faux pas are just about zero.

“Bad Whisky Blues” duly has a selection of mostly blues standards pulled from his recent back catalogue that are played with both feeling and vigour with “Smokestack Lightnin’”, “Killing Floor” and “Help Me” burning at almost the same temperature as the originals. This solid four on the floor approach definitely falls within the scope of giving the people what they want but, with the volume turned up and a beer in your hand, it isn’t in any way difficult to work up the enthusiasm to head on down to the crossroads with our Mr. Clarke.

“Bad Whisky Blues” is a solid album that will keep blues fans happy. Of that there is no doubt.

Available from Bandcamp.
