It’s Friday and that is normally more than enough reason to celebrate something. The times being what they are, it seemed only reasonable to do so by casting these ears of mine towards a blast from the past, if one destined for this brand new day, and that blast was F.O. Machete and their new album “Mother of a Thousand”.
In the rotting vineyard that is my mind, there are many grapes and some of those grapes remember a long way back in time that there was a band called F.O. Machete that enjoyed the approval of the style police of the day with their particular blend of arthouse sensibilities and post punk angularity. On the evidence of this album, the passing of time has infused further musical influences into their brand of herbal tea. The lyrics remain on the broken glass side of the spectrum and the guitars are grungier yet this is undoubtedly the work of the same band and Natasha Noramly’s mousetrap of a voice never fails to catch your attention with the best cheese being found in the wistfully surreal “Skeletor”.
F.O. Machete can still kick up a storm when they want to and “Mother of A Thousand” was, all things considered, always going to rain goodness on everyone’s parade. Once again, I am drawn to the conclude that you can’t keep a good band down and that is indeed something to celebrate.
