There are times when your ears wish for something that, if not actually old fashioned, harks back to a time when music was more than just a loop and a hook. Something, perhaps, like “The Sun Will Rise Again” by London based singer songwriter Liz Arcane.
Whilst her lyrical literacy places her straight into the groove of a seventies singer songwriter rather than the introspection inspired sensitive singer songwriters of these times, Liz Arcane still has words of relevance to today. She speaks of the losses and wins that are part of life and does so with a certain unforced sentimentality that makes all that you hear seem ultimately uplifting. I suppose therefore that there is something of a spiritual element to these songs and, as if to provide some proof of that, the songs where her guitar and voice provide the sole means for enchantment are the ones that reach out for your heart.
“The Sun Will Rise Again” is an album free of artificial colours, preservatives, and flavourings and, if your ears are impressed by melody and a certain maturity in presentation, then Liz Arcane should make your morning that little bit better.
Best song: “Long Gone”
Verdict: From the heart.
