There are moments when a man might get to thinking that time has gone into some sort of loop and he has been transported into the hell of shopping malls and John Hughes’ movies. All it might take to fall into that vortex is exposure to some pop punk in the old school style only this time the guilty sounds come from a band in the here and now called Slackrr – hailing from Southampton in the UK, no less – and their album “A Light On The Horizon”.

So, with due and diligent reverence to the ways of the genre, this album features eleven songs of high octane music designed to keep your motor running at speed. Subtlety is more or less abandoned under an onslaught of overdriven guitars muscled up on power chords and the kind of full on vocals that will most likely lead to a spontaneous singalong at any venue where beer is served and the dress code is t-shirts, open check shirts and sunglasses.

Slackrr are certainly energetic and their album will, in all likelihood, cause juvenile delinquency and a bad case of excessive enjoyment in any festival environment exposed to it. Is it “A Light On the Horizon”? Probably, but that light will likely be the headlamp of a stolen car.

Play loud for maximum enjoyment.
