I don’t how long I have been listening to the music of Monogroove. Well, actually I do but I don’t care to remember just how long. Nonetheless, Monogroove - Rin Lennon, Michael George, Alex Ritter and Jay Smith - are a band that keeps on kicking and “Popsicle-Drivethru is their latest album.

Sonically, despite lineup changes over the years, the jangly guitars that have always been the signature of this band are still present and correct, Likewise, there are still plenty of harmonies to make you fall under the spell of this band’s late sixties folk rock stylisations but, as today isn’t yesterday, there is more muscle now on show, especially behind the drumkit, than on previous albums. That said, Monogroove are still staying right on their chosen track and, truth be told, that’s just fine by me.

Monogroove albums always make me think of sunshine and “Popsicle-Drivethru” is no exception. If your musical tastes lean towards harmonies, old school pop songwriting and guitars then Monogroove might well both suit your ears and bring a smile to your face.
