I’m sure the name Roy Moller should mean something more to me as he has been in the company of the many and vainglorious of Scotland’s musical patriarchs yet his album “Hindsight” draws less on his acquaintances than on his personal connection with his own words.

There is no doubt that Roy Moller can put a song together in a manner that makes musical sense but it seems that the purpose of his songs seems more cathartic than contrived in motivation. Chart domination is therefore not his primary concern and that gives an honesty, again free of contrivance, that has a distinct resonance. Some might even call it a truth, if you like. Don’t get me wrong. Many of the songs here have that ear friendliness that you would expect of a musician who knows how many corners are in a circle but there is also a directness that suggests that the autobiographical elements, the abandonment and the recurring appearance of the ghost of love as it were, are more than mere decoration to impress the casual listener.

“Hindsight” is the kind of album that could, and perhaps should, be turned into a musical. The songs are solid and the sentimental content is right off the scale so the many and the merely curious would surely take these songs to their collective hearts.

Available from Bandcamp and the usual digital places.
