There must be something in the water these days as many an album that seems at odds with our plastic world has been making way along the dirt road to my ears. “Natur” by Welsh singer songwriters Eve Goodman and SERA is another such album.
The album is, of course, sung entirely in Welsh so these good ladies could well be singing the serial killer blues for all I would know but, somehow, I doubt it. These ten songs are far too delicate in presentation to be anything other than inspirational and, with the musical accompaniment never much exceeding minimalism, the beauty inherent to this synergistic combination of voices is always obvious. It is perhaps unexpected but there is something both soothing and hypnotic about listening to music in a language you do not understand when the intent is nonetheless as clear as the moon on a cloudless night.
It would not be inaccurate to describe “Natur” as having a timeless quality. It is not an album of today and, while country and folk influences may well be referenced, it the mix of honesty and spiritual eloquence that Eve Goodman and SERA possess that lifts this album clear of the clock.
Best song: “Cwlwm Cariad”
Verdict: Entrancing.
