There are times when I feel quite nostalgic. Ah, the good old days always seem so much better than today. Those days when music was so much better. Or was it? Of course it was or nobody would bother drawing their musical inspiration from those bygone days and, if you are going to power your street racer with the power of the past, then at least do it with some vigour as MEGG does with her “Low Life Club “EP.
Today being today, MEGG adds more than a dash of nihilism to her words just to remind us all that the mall isn’t the nirvana it once was for the body and soul of the youth of yesterday. Her less than subtle references to the downside of our disassociated digital world keep these six songs in the here and now while those power chords – and they feature prominently in five of these songs – will ensure that her words also reach the ears of those who remember when grunge was new. Even when MEGG goes subtle, as she does in the title song, she still fuels her words on broken glass. It’s a bad attitude thing and it makes a very welcome change from manufactured mediocrity.
MEGG gives a robust performance on this EP and, while the sounds may induce feelings of nostalgia, her songs are most definitely of today. Play loud because, well, that’s the way it should be.
