Many an album by musicians both famous and not so has had a breakup as the source of musical inspiration and “The Grief Case” by Lexxi Raine is no exception. That said, Lexxi Raine is a woman of the 21st century has extended the five stages of grief with another one. That one is murder. Well, this is the 21st century way.

These six songs do tell a story of things going from right to wrong with the blame being placed firmly on one side of the fence and, in consequence, there is no shortage of acid to be found in her lyrics. In musical terms, the songs are straight from the mainstream and are none the worse for that for, back in the days, songs that sound like this would be on the Walkman of every mall girl with malfeasance in mind. It would also not require much of a stretch of the imagination to turn these songs into something rather more theatrical like a stage play and that would be just the thing to liven up those arty festivals that pollute the big cities over the summer.

I assume that there is a degree of humour in all that Lexxi Raine does but, if that is not actually case, I would immediately buy her jewels and promise to never, ever, break her heart.

Available from Bandcamp and the usual digital places.
