The world gets to be smaller every day and it sometimes seems that a place like Seattle is only a short cab ride away from here. In reality, Seattle is many, many miles from here but there is much in Alicia Amiri’s new EP “Nothing Hurts” that seems to parallel this green and not so pleasant land.

Being from Seattle, it is no surprise that the ghost of grunge haunts much of the time that these five songs take up yet Alicia Amiri is closer to the sensitive singer songwriter than those ever present and volume driven guitars and drums might suggest. Her lyrical sentiments are always grounded in realism but she also has that heart as the centre of the universe mentality and that, as a result, gives her songs an almost poetic quality.

Don’t get me wrong. Alicia Amiri isn’t striking out towards any new horizons with this EP but she has that whole emotional honesty thing walking with her on her path and that will likely give the kind of resonance that will interest more than a Friday night blue collar audience.

Available from Bandcamp and the usual digital places.
