It will be no surprise to many of you to discover that the musical mainstream has a few minor roads running parallel to the motorway to the metropolis that we are all encouraged to use and it would also be no surprise to find out that the soundtrack to your journey on these alternative routes in not going to be same as you might get on a chart focused playlist. On such a, more individualistic, soundtrack you might well find songs from Gurry Wurry’s album “Glue”.

I can’t say that Gurry Wurry - aka Dave King - is a name familiar to me and I would suppose that he has being doing his determinedly individual thing for more than just yesterday and a day. His roots would seem to be most definitely lo-fi with, despite the occasional cinematic swoop, that “could this be DIY” feeling pervading the album. The songs themselves are nonetheless quite appealing. Melody has not been forgotten and with introspection easily found in the lyrics, the resulting musical conundrum is not really that difficult to decode and one might even say that this album could be the result of romanticism deliberately constrained by technology to maintain the intended authenticity.

Whilst Gurry Wurry continues to follow his own path with this album, the songs contained therein are far from inaccessible to even to ears normally filled with corporate sponsored candy floss and “Glue” might therefore stick to you long enough to make a permanent bond.

Available on CD, vinyl, and cassette from Bandcamp and of course, later on digital streaming platforms.
