BluesBunny must confess to having forgotten all about Elisa Fiorillo. For those of you with long memories you might recall that she was "big in Japan" in the late eighties in the wake of the first wave of Madonna mania.

This CD of jazz standards makes pleasant listening. Her voice is sweet and expressive and the choice of material is exemplary ("My Funny Valentine", "Fly Me to the Moon" and "Black Coffee" amongst others). However, she is let down by some rather polite arrangements and pedestrian musicianship giving the entire album a Vegas cabaret feel. The production is likewise uninspired giving a rather flat overall sound. This CD appears only to have been released in Japan which must make it a bit of a rarity.

However, a visit to her website indicated that there are two more CDs on their way and the sample tracks were much more impressive. BluesBunny looks forward to reviewing those when they are released.
