When the summer seems like it is never going to return, it's most refreshing to sample that red wine and drift away to a land less chilly. Of course, if you actually get stupored, you'll be in no state to appreciate the accompanying music. This release from North Carolina folkers the Milagro Saints bears a summery warmth. They recommend certain wines to accompany certain dishes. Well, i'm no connoisseur - currently imbibing a bottle of Blossom Hill - but i'd be so bold as to say that any Californian wine would be a welcome accompaniment to this release.
That is to say, that this album is nice but rather bland. There's little to get upset about - frontman S.D. Ineson's vocals are easy on the ears - and the band possess a gentle quality that would be lost on a gale but at the same time there's little to shout about.
This album is hugely listenable and that is perhaps the best compliment it can be paid. Trying to outline a standout track is difficult to the point that I would vouch for "And It Stoned Me". Why? It's a Van Morrison tune.
If you like your pop music to have a twist of folk-lite and to be generally unremarkable, this album should be ordered immediately. Otherwise, give it some thought, then decide.
