It seems that Indigo Road are more of a flexible collective than a band and are orchestrated by Mark Herbert. Let's see if such an approach brings anything to their music. To their new single…
"Hey It's Alright" seems a bit dated on first hearing reminding me of late seventies British rock. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing as it is big and theatrical but you just can't argue with the passion and control of Belle Erskine's vocals. In fact, I wonder just how good the song would have been if it didn't have her voice on it.
"Up For Air" could easily have come from the same album, so to speak, despite the use of different musicians. Again, Belle Erskine's vocals are the key attraction - she is far more than just a good voice - and she bring life to the song. I have to also say that I was impressed by the contribution of Ruwan Kodikara on drums as well.
Both of these songs are really very good although I don't really see either of them as singles in the conventional sense. The buying habits of the general public are different now so perhaps buying individual tracks is how it is done but I, for one, would certainly buy an entire album just because Belle Erskine was singing on it.
