You've got love press releases. Some poor marketing person has to dump an unsuspecting artist into a category so that writers like me can be persuaded to review him. Rigil - who appears to be from England - is apparently in the ambient pop genre (whatever that might be…).
I suppose that the electronic backing that swirls around every track could be classed as ambient but I doubt that the sum of the parts could ever be classed as pop. There's no real attempt at giving any of the songs on this album a hook for instance. Now I know that a lot of people like this rather unfocussed approach to music but it does tend to irritate me. Rigil's vocals also tend towards the flat and unemotional leaving that sinking bedsit feeling. It's all inoffensive but by the end you'll be ready to beg for a harmony.
No doubt Rigil's intentions here are honest but he makes no real effort to win your affections and consequently it is hard to care. Music for those lonely nights in with your iPod methinks.
