Artist: The Argyle Wishlist
Title: Day Trips EP
Catalogue Number: Series Two/ Eggnog Records

Release Year: 2009

More lo-fi indie pop, this time from American duo The Argyle Wishlist. Their "Day Trips" EP is a limited release of a mere 50 copies (available from Series Two Records in the USA or Eggnog Records in Australia) so you'd better hurry if you want to avail yourself of a purchasing option.

Well, what do you get here? Four tracks that float right up the middle of the indie pop mainstream only they are not playing it too safe. The Argyle Wishlist are clearly tougher than the likes of  Desmond Reed - there's not a mention of furry rodents anywhere here - and at times as in "Should've Kept a Journal" they show a definite potential to rock out. I'm not kidding either for you can crank the volume right up here. Echoes of golden age American pop are to be found in "What's Done is Done" and some downright funky keyboards enliven "Slippery Slope" too.

I ended up liking this EP (and I hate liking bands that my aged mother could outdrink!). The Argyle Wishlist lack the lyrical confidence of bands like The Just Joans or the Felt Tips but apart from that they're doing everything else just about right.
