The Agrarians worry me. They knock out songs at one hell of a rate. No waiting a year for their next masterwork here. You've barely finished reviewing one of their albums before the next one pops through the letterbox.
Therefore the arrival of "That New Olde Timey Feele Pt. II", whilst unannounced, was hardly a surprise. Maybe it rains a lot in Baltimore - from whence The Agrarians hail - but Matt Perzinski (the mastermind behind this band) can't be faulted for his diligence. It seems that he must have acquired some decent recording kit as the sound is considerably better than his determinedly lo-fi previous releases. Don't worry though - technology hasn't spoiled the fun. The twisted poetry of his lyrics is still there but this time you don't need a lyric sheet to follow his (err…) ramblings. Not that I really understand what he is getting at but once more I find myself compelled to listen anyway (especially to "When We All Call Out to Our God"). These songs are the ones that you tell people about, then you play the songs to them and they just look at you. Blankly. Only this time, there is actually something that resembles a conventional rock song in "This Surgery's For Reale". Maybe they'll be able to get that one?
I'm addicted to the music of The Agrarians and I don't really know why. Actually I do- I like puzzles.
