It turns out that (Only) Joe Kane is a one man band performing and producing these two songs by himself. You'll remember him from cult Glasgow band The Owsley Sunshine, of course? Me neither but the proof, as they say, is in the vinyl.
"Jennifer One" doesn't sound like it comes from Scotland (which is good) as these ears are getting tired of the angst and acres of indie rock that have become prevalent. This song sparks like something from the late period of The Monkees or, for a more contemporary reference, from Apples in Stereo. It's a bit psychedelic on top but underneath it's a great little two and a half minute pop song that you can actually sing along to. Don't worry too much about what it means because that ain't the point.
"Nova Shock!" is a bit of a hoot as well being the bastard son of Buddy Holly and glam rock. This is one song that would be right at home on the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.
A bit of a time warp record then but somehow it seems so very suitable for summer. Think I'll buy a bus and drive it to Athens now …
