Glasgow punk pop is the way to go, especially if you are in Glasgow, and local luminaries Blush Club are right where the style money is with their EP “Ornamental Ponds.”

This is an EP so you only get four songs but that limited number of musical opportunities doesn’t stop these cappuccino drinking future icons from making their mark. There is, without doubt, almost Morrissey level pretension on show and more than a nod to the ghost of Postcard Records in their instrumental angularity but it is equally hard to deny that they can spin their sushi focused yet smarter than average words into a web that will catch many an unsuspecting fly on a Friday night out.

I put a lot of effort into disliking this EP but didn’t actually succeed in doing so because, when it comes down to it, a good song is a good song even if it drives you towards random acts of the old ultraviolence.

Best song: The quirky and reverential “Ornamental Ponds.”

Verdict: Better than a blueberry muffin.
